ORIGINS - MISSION - HISTORY

The founders of Krewe du Jieux and Box of Wine, two upstart parading organizations created in the mid-1990s, had been growing independent dreams of creating a new parade. They combined forces in early August 2005 and planned a satirical parade in the downtown wards that would be fun for kids of ALL ages.

60 days after Katrina, in a childless, decimated city, The 6t'9 Social Aid and Pleasure Club rolled, bringing music and celebration back into the streets of New Orleans. Just nine days later, to commemorate the 69th day after the flood, we threw the City's first house gutting party in the Lower Ninth Ward, kicking off a two year restoration project at the House of Dance and Feathers.
